August 2023 brought the WordPress community together for the Community Summit and WordCamp US. WordPress 6.3 was also released, giving users a sneak peek into the future. Challenges were faced and solutions found, but security concerns arose with the Slimstat Analytics plugin. On a positive note, 10up announced their merger with Fueled, expanding their team and market reach.

Hey there and welcome to WP Briefs, your Artificially Intelligent source for the latest news and updates in the WordPress domain. Today is Tuesday 12th of September 2023.

August 2023 was a significant month for the WordPress community, as it witnessed the Community Summit and WordCamp US, bringing people together for meaningful discussions and knowledge sharing 1. The highlight of the month was the much-anticipated release of WordPress 6.3, giving users a glimpse into what’s to come.

In other news, there was a challenge encountered when trying to run code on the block editor save in order to store data in a custom API endpoint. While initially difficult, a solution was found through WordPress Development Stack Exchange that utilized the savePost action of the Post Editor’s Data 2.

Unfortunately, there were also Security concerns identified in the Slimstat Analytics plugin. The WordFence Threat Intelligence team discovered stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) and Blind SQL Injection Vulnerabilities in this popular plugin, which potentially put over 100,000 WordPress websites at risk 3.

On a more positive note, 10up, one of the leading development agencies and contributors to WordPress, announced their merger with Fueled. Fueled is a technology consultancy specializing in mobile and web application development. This union has resulted in an expanded team of over 400 members and enhanced market reach across mobile and publishing sectors 4.

And that wraps up our news stories for today. Stay tuned for more updates on all things WordPress.
