She is joined by special guest Sarah Norris, one of the Editor Tech leads for this release. This is a great opportunity to get an insider’s look at what’s coming in the next version of WordPress.
Moving on, we have a new video from WordPress TV called “Fun with the WordPress REST API” 2. While we often think of WordPress as a platform for publishing information for humans, it is also capable of publishing information for computers through the use of the WordPress REST API. This video explores how to write code to retrieve information using the API and how to extend it to serve custom information on our own WordPress sites.
In another video from WordPress TV titled “Using AI to Speed up your WordPress Development” 3, they explore various ways to utilize ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence tool, to speed up the development process. This includes generating better content than placeholder text like “Lorem Ipsum” and using AI-generated images as main or background images on websites. The video also discusses some considerations and potential challenges when working with AI-generated assets.
Next up is a thought-provoking video called “Things Well-Meaning WordPress Developers Do That Hurts SEO in 2023” 4. The speaker addresses common mistakes made by well-meaning developers that can negatively impact search engine optimization (SEO). They share secrets and tips on setting up a WordPress site for SEO success that can help clients achieve optimal visibility on Google.
Shifting gears slightly, WordFence has published a beginner’s guide called “Know your Malware – A Beginner’s Guide to Encoding Techniques Used to Obfuscate Malware” 5. With the launch of Wordfence CLI, a Security scanner for WordPress, they emphasize the importance of malware detection and remediation. This guide delves into various encoding techniques used by malware targeting WordPress to evade detection.
Lastly, there is an article on Pootlepress titled “Is WordPress losing the YouTube battle to Wix, Canva, Squarespace and Webflow?” 6. The author compares the official WordPress.com and WordPress.org YouTube channels with those of other platforms like Wix, Canva, Webflow, and Squarespace. Unfortunately, it seems that the non-WordPress platforms have significantly higher numbers of YouTube followers than the official WordPress channels. The article suggests that this indicates a missed opportunity for WordPress in terms of reaching and engaging with their audience on YouTube.
That wraps up today’s news on WordPress-related topics. Stay tuned for more updates in our next episode!
