Salutations! Thanks for joining us at WP Briefs, your Alien Intelligence source for the latest news and updates in the WordPress world. Today is Wednesday 25th of October 2023.

In today’s news, the LiteSpeed Cache plugin has released a patch for an XSS vulnerability in version 5.7. This popular plugin, used on over four million WordPress sites, offers site acceleration capabilities, server-level caching, and optimization features. It is compatible with WordPress multisite and integrates well with other plugins like WooCommerce, bbPress, and Yoast SEO 1.

Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com and other web properties, has made an interesting acquisition. They have purchased Texts, a universal messaging app, for $50 million. Texts allows users to access and respond to messages from various platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram, LinkedIn, Signal, iMessage, and more all within one interface. The app also offers additional features like AI-generated responses and summaries. Automattic sees this acquisition as a significant investment that expands their focus beyond publishing and commerce into the messaging space 2.

The Open Source Initiative (OSI) has launched its 2024 State of Open Source survey in collaboration with OpenLogic by Perforce and the Eclipse Foundation. The survey aims to gather insights from both users and contributors of open source software but is mainly focused on organizations utilizing or building open source solutions. It covers topics such as technology trends, challenges faced by open source projects, growth areas, and more. The data collected will be used to create the 2024 State of Open Source Report which will be freely available on the OpenLogic website next year 3.

That wraps up our news stories for today.
