WooCommerce raises minimum PHP version to 7.4, Formidable Forms vulnerable to arbitrary plugin installation, and WordPress 6.4 development cycle announced
Welcome to WP Briefs for Tuesday, June 6th, 2023. Let’s take a look at today’s news.
The WordPress community has announced the development cycle for WordPress 6.4, which is set to be released later this year as the third major release of 2023. The release team aims to encourage participation and shared ownership among gender-underrepresented groups within the open-source community. WordPress 6.4 s scheduled for release on November 7th, with a first beta release on September 26th.
WooCommerce has announced that starting with version 8.2, which is scheduled for release in October 2023, the minimum PHP version required will be bumped up to 7.4 from the current requirement of 7.3. This change was announced earlier this year in May when the minimum PHP version was updated to 7.3 from 7.2.
Formidable Forms plugin has been found to have an arbitrary plugin installation vulnerability during a recent internal review. This vulnerability could potentially allow low privilege users such as subscribers to install any plugin available on downloads.wordpress.org, allowing malicious users to gain access and control over vulnerable sites.
That’s all for today’s WP Briefs update on Tuesday, June 6th, 2023. We’ll see you again tomorrow for more WordPress news and updates.
